During the ACTwatch project period, DR Congo had one of the largest African populations living in a holoendemic malaria transmission area. Therefore, there was a high malaria burden and high demand for antimalarials. Compared to other African countries, it was a less regulated market with little capacity by the public sector to provide antimalarials and minimal in-country pharmaceutical manufacturing.
ACTwatch conducted three outlet surveys (2009, 2013, and 2015), one household survey (2010), as well as qualitative and quantitative supply chain research (2010) in DR Congo. Results from all surveys and research are available at the Results & publications page.
