During the ACTwatch project period, Myanmar was one of four countries in the Greater Mekong subregion where parasite resistance to artemisinins was detected. PSI Myanmar's artemisinin monotherapy replacement project was one component of a broader Myanmar Artemisinin Resistance Containment (MARC) framework. Outlet, household, and supply chain surveys using ACTwatch study methodology contributed important data to resistance monitoring efforts in the country.
Four outlet surveys were conducted (2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015) in Myanmar. Although the 2015 outlet survey was the only survey funded by ACTwatch, prior surveys used ACTwatch methodology. Myanmar became a formal member of the ACTwatch country roster in 2013. Results from all surveys and research are available at the Results & publications page.
